"Balochistan is not Pakistan", said Baloch leader Mir Yar Baloch as he declared independence of the state on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. He cited violence, enforced disappearances, genocide, and oppression for decades in the region. The Baloch representative shared the claim via an X post, stating that the people of Balochistan have given their "national verdict," to which the world should not stay silent anymore.
Mir Yar Baloch wrote, "Tum maroge, Hum Neklengy, Hum Nasal Bachane Nikley Hain, Aao Hamara Saath Do. Baloch people across Pakistan Occupied Balochistan are up on their streets, and this is their national verdict that Balochistan is not Pakistan, and the world can't be a silent spectator anymore."
Urging the media persons, intellectuals, and YouTubers across India, including the citizens, he asked them to avoid calling Balochs as "Pakistan's own people."
He said, "Baloch Narrative!! Dear Indians patriot Media, YouTube comrades, the intellectuals fighting to defend Bharat are advised not to refer to Balochs as 'Pakistan's own people'. We are not Pakistani, we are Balochistani. Pakistan's own people are the Punjabi, who have never faced air bombings, enforced disappearances, and genocide."
Mir Yar Baloch also asserted that Balochistan is in full support of India's stand on Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). At the same time, urging the International community to pressure Pakistan to vacate the occupied territory[1].
He said in his statement, "14 May 2025- Balochistan fully supports the India decision of asking Pakistan to vacate POK. The International community must urge Pakistan to immediately leave POK to avoid another humiliation of surrender on its 93,000 army personnel in Dhaka. India is capable of defeating the Pakistan Army, and if Pakistan didn't pay any heed, then only the Pakistani greedy generals will be held responsible for the bloodshed because Islamabad is using POK people as human shields."
Earlier in a press release, it was stated, "We assure India that if it makes the final decision to eliminate the terrorist state of Pakistan, Baloch Liberation Army, along with the entire nation, is ready to attack from the Western border. We will not only welcome the decision but will also become its practical and military arm. We are ready to surround Pakistan from both eastern and western fronts. Now, it is time for the sub-continent and the world to take decisive action against Pakistan" (as reported by India Today).
Mir Yar Baloch sought support from India as well as the international community worldwide for Balochistan's independence. Also, stating that the world should not accept the false narrative of Pakistan on Balochistan. He called out major organizations like the United nations for peacekeeping support, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, UNICEF, and UNESCO, among others, to announce emergency funds for Balochistan, in order to establish the Balochistan Bank and help the Baloch take control of the Democratic Republic of Balochistan state[2].

Along with this, the Baloch representatives also urged India to recognize its sovereignty by allowing the establishment of its embassy in New Delhi. They have also been demanding the withdrawal of the Pakistani Army from Balochistan. Moreover, all non-Baloch personnel in the army, the Frontier Corps, military intelligence, ISI, and civil administration have been asked to leave Balochistan immediately[1].
Mir Yar Baloch is a representative of the Baloch, who is a writer, a freelance journalist, and a Human Rights activist. In a series of X posts, he can be seen criticizing Pakistan, condemning its acts of brutal occupation[3].
Upon the plans of forming the new Government in Balochistan, he responded, "The control of Balochistan will soon be handed over to the new government of Balochistan state, and a transitional conclusive interim government will soon be announced. Representation of Baloch women in the cabinet is the fulfillment of our commitment to the nation[1]."
Balochistan is the largest province of Pakistan in terms of area, and its capital, Quetta, the 10th largest city of the country. Before independence, it was a part of the princely state of Kalat, later on an annexed territory of Pakistan (1948). It's not the size, but the strategic importance of the province that concerns Pakistan and its neighbors[4]:
Balochistan- A tale of rebellions, suppressions, and insurgencies, which has somewhere made it an unsettling territory. Ever since it was annexed, there have been insurgencies in the region with nationalist groups wanting their independence or a higher share of autonomy. To deal with it, military operations were carried out by the Government of Pakistan, which further led to rebellions. Another cycle of operations to suppress these followed[4].
Organizations advocating for human rights have themselves reported instances of extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and framed civilian targeting, via documentaries in Balochistan[4].
Baloch insurgents have often targeted the Gwadar port and the surrounding areas, threatening infrastructure projects carried out by Chinese groups as they consider them exploitative. They say that CPEC and other projects are exploitative and do not benefit the local population[5].
The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) or the Balochistan Ajooyi Lashkar is an armed separatist group or militant organization based in the Baloch region of Pakistan. According to ANI, the group aims to seek independence for Balochistan. BLA keeps attacking the Armed forces deployed by Pakistan, civilians, and foreign nationals in their region. The first noted attack of BLA was in mid-2000 when it launched a series of bombings against Pakistani authorities[5].
BLA was formed in retaliation for decades-long grievances standing due to economic exploitation, political marginalization, military oppression, and violence by Pakistani authorities. The BLA is listed as a terrorist organization by Pakistan[5].
Amid India and Pakistan tensions, the new development in Balochistan will surely affect the regional stability. Also, the representatives seeking India's support, India's role becomes more prominent on the international front. Pakistan hasn't issued any response yet, things will become clearer soon. But, with Balochistan claiming its independence, can we assume that Pakistan is close to yet another partition?
